Stories from Union WELL Staff:

Hello my name is Eduardo Ramirez i work at the well and my position is a building supervisor. The way that I celebrate my culture is always being with my family because family in my culture is very important. To my family and I the word “family “ doesn’t mean only blood, it’s anyone that we love. I believe diversity is very important because everyone is meant to be treated equally because we are all human. A program that I use here at the well is Intramural league. And advice I would give to fellow haunted is always search for help if you need it don’t ever be afraid to ask for help.

I'm currently a student supervisor at the WELL here on campus. I was originally a transfer when I first came to Sac State, and the WELL quickly became my second home. Moving far from my parent was a huge change for me. At times I was often by myself and didn't have anyone to talk to, but the student staff quickly became my family. Being from a Hispanic household, family has always been an important part of my life. Even with our ups and downs we still managed to have each other's backs. I was happy to find that here as well. The diversity at the WELL, or even Sac State in general, has allowed me to create life long relationship with others from all different backgrounds.

WELL Employee

Hi my name is Gabe Rendon and I am the Coordinator of Member Experience at The WELL at Sac State. I am a first-generation college graduate. My parents immigrated from Oaxaca, Mexico when they were in there early 20’s. Growing up they thought me the importance of family, compassion and perseverance.

How I celebrate my culture is by visiting Oaxaca when ever I have the opportunity to do so. I’ve visited place such as El Tule, Mitla, Hierve el Agua, Monte Alban and El Centro de Oaxaca. This upcoming winter I plan on visiting Huatulco. Other ways I celebrate my culture include tamale making on Christmas Eve, listening to Bad Bunny and watching my sister dance bailes folkoricos.

At Union WELL Inc., I see myself as a leader for students and demonstrating that regardless of your background you can do and be anything you would like. The Union WELL Inc represents my culture by hosting events like El Grito Mexican Independence Day Celebration put on by Unique at The University Union, in addition to seeing group fitness classes like Cycle Latin Mix at The WELL.

My advice to everyone is to make connections and attend events and push yourself out of your comfort zone. You have no idea who you will meet and how they may impact your life.

Gabe Rendon
