<image:title>Home - International Day of Persons with Disabilities</image:title>
<image:caption>ABOUT THE DECEMBER STICKER International Day of People with Disabilities is celebrated on December 3. The designer for this month’s sticker found inspiration from the core values of inclusivity and the unwavering support for the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities. Acknowledging the diversity of disabilities, relying solely on one symbol, was avoided opting instead for a compilation of various disability representations to underscore the multifaceted nature of this community. The choice of light pastel colors in the palette echoes the serene and calming tones often employed by mental health and wellness industries. Through this design, the aim is to convey a message of unity, understanding, and the importance of embracing all forms of diversity, visible and invisible, as we strive for a world that truly celebrates the uniqueness of every individual. Here are just some of the resources on campus: Hornet Shuttle & Herky Streetcar Disability Access Center Library Resource Guide for Users with Disabilities Disability Cultural Center & Assistive Technology Lab Disabled & Non-Disabled Student Alliance Club (D.A.N.A. <image:title>Home - Veteran’s Day - About the October Sticker:</image:title>
<image:caption>ABOUT THE NOVEMBER STICKER Thank you, Veterans! The design inspiration for the Veteran's Day sticker centers around a shift from the typical imagery of soldiers and flags to a more intimate and human perspective of the holiday. Depicting a home, which can symbolize both the individual veteran's home and the United States as a collective home, the design is imbued with the patriotic colors of red, white, and blue. The accompanying text, "Our utmost respect to the bravery, courage, and honor of our Veterans," serves to express the profound gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by these heroes. This design aims to evoke a sense of warmth, unity, and a deep connection between the soldiers and the nation, emphasizing the familial and personal aspects of Veteran's Day. Here are just some of the resources and events on campus that support Veterans: The Veteran’s Success Center (VSC) is located in Lassen Hall, Room 2003. VSC aids students in accessing their VA Education benefits, the timely certifying of those benefits, and completing the admission application process. The VSC also helps students find veteran-related resources, provides leadership opportunities, peer-to-peer mentorship, and support in transitioning into a meaningful career. More info can be found on their website The Veterans Career Pathways Program (VCPP) empowers student veterans and dependents with the necessary skills and resources to obtain gainful employment. The VCPP assists in developing leadership and job-savvy skills. These skills prepare the student in transitioning to the civilian workforce both during college and after graduation. More info can be found on their website Athletics will be hosing a Military Appreciation Day at their November 11 football game at Home Stadium vs Cal Poly. The first 1000 students will also get a free bucket hat. Visit HornetSports.com for more details. The WELL offers a 10% discount to all Active Military and Veterans for WELL Membership. For more info, visit the Front Desk at The WELL or call (916) 278-9355. BLOG ENTRIES SUBMITTED BY THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY “Veterans Day used to be called Armistice Day the day that World War I ended on November 11, 1918. The day the Western Front fell silent. Armistice Day transitioned to Veterans Day as a way of celebrating all veterans who have served. It's not Memorial Day, a day where we need to stop and remember all who gave it all in fighting for all the freedoms we maintain in this great nation. Just remember that veterans are those who have served in the active military and were discharged under conditions besides dishonorable. Veterans Day is not a day for veterans to receive free food or be thanked for their service. To be honest, as a veteran, I never know how to respond to being thanked. I am a veteran and would much rather have a conversation with someone about my experiences and theirs. Veterans specifically combat veterans do not always maintain a high state of mental health and engaging with veterans could save their lives. Suicide has claimed more service members during the Global War on Terror than both conflicts in the Middle East. I just ask you all to engage with veterans whether its calling family members who have served or classmates because they/we can feel isolated once we leave military service. Days like Veterans Day and Memorial Day can be extremely difficult for veterans to process, one they lost battle buddies throughout their service in combat or non-combat operations or in garrison setting. Some are struggling with mental health once the leave the military and the feeling brotherhood or family is missing. I just employ you to talk to and get to know veterans because they may be suffering in silence.” Anonymous Sac State Student "My name is Steven. I was active duty Army for a little over 11 years. I deployed three times to Afghanistan with a total of 41 months deployed. I got out in 2015 as a SSG in the Infantry. I am about to graduate Fall of 2023 with a degree in biology. I have utilized the gym at the well several times. I find this facility as a great way to relax and get rid of stress or anxiety. Especially during midterms or finals." Steven, Sac State Student "Veterans Day as a Student Veteran There are many feelings, life experiences, and anecdotes that will take more than 100 words to share and give context to who I am today. My experience as a veteran goes beyond serving in the military or serving to defend the freedom of the USA. My time in the service also helped me build a family and a brotherhood with complete strangers who shared a similar goal, the idea of building a future for the next generation and risking it all to do so: life, family, physical health, and mental health. Today, I celebrate those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, but also those who carry on with life, working double and triple, while battling the everyday monsters: PTSD, depression, anxiety, and the struggle to find a place in a world that is not made to understand you, but for you to find a way to be understood. I celebrate all veterans and their everyday battles! Happy Veterans Day" Victor Rodriguez Tafoya, Sac State Student</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - LGBTQ+ History Month - About the October Sticker:</image:title>
<image:caption>We are celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month during the month of October! The design inspiration for revolves around the powerful message of self-acceptance and community support encapsulated in the phrase "Bee Proud." The central element of the design is a bee, creatively composed of vibrant pride colors, symbolizing the celebration of one's identity. This bee is further adorned with trailing colors from the progressive flag, ensuring inclusivity for all gender identities. The bee comes from the same family as hornets, not only representing unity within the LGBTQ+ community but also specifically ties into the Sac State community, reinforcing the idea that we all belong and thrive together. This design aims to inspire pride, solidarity, and recognition of the diverse identities that make up the LGBTQ+ community while fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness within the broader community. Campus resources & events: PRIDE Center- provides students looking for a connection to campus with programs and events, access to resources on campus and in the community, a welcoming hangout space, and opportunities for education about LGBTQIA communities and the intersections of many identities and experiences. The crown represents women as figurative queens who “never put others down” and are “uplifting to all”, as defined by the following entry from Urban Dictionary:“Our History is Our Strength” is a quote from National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA), a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and preserving women’s history. <image:title>Home - Black History Month - About the February Sticker</image:title>
<image:caption>The design is a blunted sword wrapped in a tri-color ribbon, representing Black History Month with red, yellow, and green colors. The sword is based on the blunted sword from the Black Heritage flag, originally created by Melvin Charles and Gleason Jackson during the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. The sword represents the strength of Black culture and marks the contributions made by Black Americans. Overall, the Black Heritage flag represents the history, accomplishments, and pride of the Black community. The phrase “We Shall Overcome” echoes this year’s Black History Month theme “Black Resistance” as it explores how African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression since the nation’s earliest days. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_American_Heritage_Flag https://asalh.org/black-history-themes/</image:caption>

<image:caption>The red ribbon is a significant symbol of public awareness and support for people living with HIV/AIDS. Its creation inspired other charities to utilize a ribbon symbol, such as the pink breast cancer ribbon. Butterflies symbolize hope and transformation, representing supporters’ desire for increased awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS and a cure for HIV.
