World Aids Day

About the December Sticker

The red ribbon is a significant symbol of public awareness and support for people living with HIV/AIDS. Its creation inspired other charities to utilize a ribbon symbol, such as the pink breast cancer ribbon. Butterflies symbolize hope and transformation, representing supporters’ desire for increased awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS and a cure for HIV. The phrase “Ignorance Isn’t Bliss” reflects the action of education and awareness to correct misconceptions and misinformation about HIV/AIDS.

Wish Upon A Star:

The University Union is currently hosting their annual gift donation drive: Wish Upon a Star. This heartwarming display of stars with children’s wishes is on display in The University Union main lobby, through December 8th  during regular building hours.

The Union partners with Sunburst Projects every year for this gift drive that aims to give gifts to HIV/AIDS impacted families. For more than 20 years, this annual drive has granted over 10,000 holiday wishes. These wishes from children typically reflect basic requests, including diapers, wipes, underwear, and more. For some families, the gifts donated through this drive are the only gift that their child will receive this holiday season.

To participate in this gift drive, visit the “Wish Upon a Star” display located in The University Union main lobby during building hours: Monday-Thursday 6:30 a.m. – 11 p.m., Friday 6:30 a.m. – 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. There, you may choose a star, purchase the wish listed on the star, and share the very special holiday gift with a child. The gift may be delivered to The University Union’s Information Desk on the first floor by 11 pm, Thursday, December 8.

A special gift-wrapping party will be hosted on Friday, December 9 at 9 am. The event will be held in The University Union Redwood Room, located on the 1st floor of the building. This event is free for students and the general public. Help wrapping gifts is welcome.
