Black History Month

About the February Sticker

The design is a blunted sword wrapped in a tri-color ribbon, representing Black History Month with red, yellow, and green colors.

The sword is based on the blunted sword from the Black Heritage flag, originally created by Melvin Charles and Gleason Jackson during the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. The sword represents the strength of Black culture and marks the contributions made by Black Americans. Overall, the Black Heritage flag represents the history, accomplishments, and pride of the Black community.

The phrase “We Shall Overcome” echoes this year’s Black History Month theme “Black Resistance” as it explores how African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression since the nation’s earliest days.

Stories from Union WELL Staff

Being an African American working at The WELL has been a fun experience. When I first got here I immediately felt welcomed and included. It’s an honor to bring diversity to the workplace and on campus.
